Managing Migration IDs and Data During Profile Migration
In this process, you'll learn how to effectively manage migration IDs or external IDs during a migration project. These IDs help link migration profiles back to their original legacy system sources, ensuring seamless data integration.
Step 1
To begin, open the profile you wish to examine. You can create a new prospect to see the available fields, including the migration ID field found under additional information. This field will be utilized in the migration process.

Step 2
The migration ID can be manually entered when creating a record. Alternatively, it can be mapped and inserted automatically during the migration process. Additionally, the Create Client API allows the migration ID to be parsed and recorded against a specific prospect or profile.

Step 3
Migration ID can also be updated using a patch endpoint within the client's record. While the example may not include a patch endpoint, you can replace or update the migration field as necessary.

Step 4
Both patch and post methods are available from an API perspective. On the front end, you can create entries and, once a migration ID is mapped to a profile, additional unstructured data that cannot be migrated within the current system may be displayed as a tab.

Step 5
For records with a migration ID and associated comments, an extra tab labeled "Migration Data" will appear. Within this tab, any migration data or text you input will be displayed. This field supports Markdown format, allowing you to present information that cannot be migrated from the previous system, either due to export limitations or for simplicity.

Step 6
Being a Markdown-supported field, the Migration Data tab allows you to format information as desired. For instance, a profile may have a comment labeled as migrated data, though it can be customized as needed.

Step 7
To make migration IDs searchable, edit the profile, navigate to the migration ID, and copy it. Use the omni search function to locate and open the corresponding profile, as migration IDs are fully searchable.

Step 8
Thank you.
