Using Migration IDs for Data Migration and Profile Linking

This document outlines the process of utilizing migration IDs during data transfers. Migration IDs help link migration profiles back to their source logs or legacy systems. They can be manually added, mapped, or inserted via an API, and are integral to managing unstructured data and ensuring its visibility post-migration.

Step 1

Open a profile or create a new prospect to access the 'Additional Information' section. Here, you will find the 'Migration ID' field, which can be utilized for linking during migration.

Step 2

The Migration ID can be entered manually if a record is created manually. Additionally, it can be mapped and inserted during the migration process itself. The Create Client API allows the parsing of the Migration ID to associate it with a specific prospect or profile.

Step 3

The client's record can also be updated using a patch endpoint. Although the current example does not display this, the migration field can be replaced using this endpoint.

Step 4

From both an API and front-end perspective, Patch and Post methods can be employed. Once a migration ID is linked to a profile, unstructured information, which cannot be migrated within the current system, can be displayed as a tab.

Step 5

Records with a Migration ID and comments will display an additional 'Migration Data' tab. This tab showcases any migration data or text added, supporting Markdown format. This feature is particularly useful for displaying records that could not be migrated from the previous system due to export limitations or for simplicity.

Step 6

This field supports Markdown, allowing flexible formatting of information in the migrated data tab. For example, a profile may have a comment like "This is migrated data," although any message can be input.

Step 7

To edit a profile, navigate to the relevant section and copy the Migration ID. This ID is searchable using the omni-search feature, enabling you to locate the same profile effortlessly.
